In 2015-16, a feasibility study conducted by an internationally recognized consultant included interviews with over 40 government officials, business leaders, educators, and parents who said Sault Ste. Marie, MI needed a children’s museum. Currently, the closest children’s museums are in Marquette, Traverse City, and Sudbury, which require overnight travel.
The Soo Locks Children’s Museum became a member of the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM) in 2015.
The Soo Locks Children’s Museum is a non-profit organization formed to create an interactive environment for the EUP and Algoma regions where children can grow as they express themselves, play, imagine, and create. The museum will have many hands-on, interactive exhibits to support this learning.
