About Us

In 2015-16, a feasibility study conducted by an internationally recognized consultant included interviews with over 40 government officials, business leaders, educators, and parents who said Sault Ste. Marie, MI needed a children’s museum. Currently, the closest children’s museums are in Marquette, Traverse City, and Sudbury, which require overnight travel.

The Soo Locks Children’s Museum became a member of the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM) in 2015.

The Soo Locks Children’s Museum is a non-profit organization formed to create an interactive environment for the EUP and Algoma regions where children can grow as they express themselves, play, imagine, and create. The museum will have many hands-on, interactive exhibits to support this learning.

Education opens opportunities and provides a pathway to a more fulfilling life. My hope is that the Soo Locks Children’s Museum will help in building part of that educational foundation and inspire children to explore, imagine, and create through play.”

– Paul Weber, PhD, Former Board Secretary

“The Soo Locks Children’s Museum will provide a unique opportunity for physical and intellectual growth for our children, our grandchildren, and the children visiting our community. In a larger framework, the Soo Locks Children’s Museum will be a little gem in the community, making our community a more attractive place to live, work, and visit.”
